Our "Long Stay Program" is designed to give our customers a creative, sustainable solution to keeping their palms and tropicals happy and healthy year after year. The principle behind this program is to hold any products that are compromised for any reason back for the season in our professional care to allow them a chance to grow back and recover under controlled conditions. Ultimately, this creative solution greatly increases the lifespan and overwintering potential of your palms/ tropicals while keeping them looking tip top and ready for the party at any time!
There are so many factors that affect the overall wellbeing and health of your tropicals growing in New England. Unseasonably cold weather, excessive rain, pest issues and transportation/ acclimation shock are some of the most common factors that are out of our control. These conditions can drastically compromise your tropicals. This is why it is important to self-educate or work with a trusted professional to learn how to limit exposure, when possible, along with identifying and remediating these issues right away.
When tropicals in New England are exposed to these unfavorable conditions, it can cause them to become incredibly susceptible to a wide variety of both pest and systemic issues. Since they are so far from the Planting zone they thrive in, they often do not get a chance to recover from damage sustained throughout our short, but dynamic, “Palm Tree Season” in New England. It can sometimes take a full year growing in optimum conditions and a controlled environment, along with a certain level of expertise, to get your products thriving again.
Often, we notice certain products that have been purchased or overwintered elsewhere show signs of what we call, "Dying a Slow Death". This is when palm trees and tropicals are simply kept alive throughout the winter, and instead of identifying/ remediation any issues present, they are simply kept alive. To the untrained eye, these products may not look like they are as sick as they are and will show signs of growth. However, this is just prolonging the inevitable, and they really are just dying a slow death. This is not good practice for many reasons. From a sustainability point of view, it is only one step better than killing your trees at the end of the season. It is a risky practice because these sick trees can contaminate and compromise healthy trees in transport or when installing at your house in close vicinity of where the sick compromised trees were and where your new products will be. Over the years, we have come up with a great solution to help limit the effects and avoid our products being at total loss.
This is a more consistent option that consists of our customers owning a second tree at a discounted price that allows us to be able to swap the trees out each year. By doing this, we can keep a close eye on your products at the farm, giving them ideal growing conditions and sufficient time to do any pest remediation work/ corrective procedures. Utilizing this program not only makes it so your palms/ tropicals are happy and healthy but also looking the best they possibly can at all times. It is a huge deal when it comes to the sustainability of having tropical landscapes in New England. Giving your products a chance to truly recover will greatly reduce the chance of premature death and ultimately save countless palm trees from being discarded year after year. When utilizing this option, you will not have to pay for overwintering on both palms. You would only be responsible for the overwintering expense of one tree per season. So, the only additional expense would be the initial purchase of the
secondary/ rotation palm. For these palms, we would be able to sell you at 25% of retail price.
Designed as an as needed service/ program to help give your tropicals a little extra love and support to get them back on track after a rough season; either from unfavorable weather, pest issues, transportation shock or to recover after a pot up/ root pruning. You can think of it as sending your tropicals to a top-notch spa for the season. While your palms are relaxing in our tropical oasis we will source you a comparable product of your choice to enjoy for the season at our cost. This option helps give our customers a creative solution to allow us to hold their palms and tropicals back for the season, professionally maintaining them in a controlled environment, either on our farm in Connecticut or South Florida, while they recover from a wide variety of common issues that are inevitable when growing palm trees in New England. The difference between us being able to keep a close eye on these products and growing them under ideal conditions, giving them a chance to grow out a bit/ recover, will often save your palm from dying a slow sad death, ultimately getting a limited time out of your investment. This option/ service is free to all our overwintering customers that bought their products from us. The only expense would be our actual replacement cost for the tree that you select for the season. Typically, this option would cost $100 for most 15g palms, $150-$180 for most 25g- 30g palms.
